Voltage Detector (VDD)

A voltage detector is a safety instrument used by line mechanics and linemen to verify whether electrical equipment or power lines are energised before work begins. It senses the presence of voltage—either through direct contact or by detecting the electric field around a conductor—and provides a visible and/or audible indication. By confirming a line is live or de‑energised, voltage detectors help prevent accidental contact with hazardous electrical energy and are essential to safe switching, isolation, and earthing procedures.

When lives are on the line Betacom provides portable earthing devices and associated safety equipment.
